Dental Implants - A New Tooth for an Attractive Smile

Dental implants are a one of the best options for missing teeth and a new gorgeous smile. Here at London Teeth Whitening, our team of dentists provides a wide range of dental implant services such as single and multiple tooth replacement options. If you are suffering from uncomfortable or loose dentures, then our experts may suggest implant treatment.

Dental implants consists of three parts:

  1. The implant: A screw acting as the root for your new tooth gets attached permanently to the jawbone.

  2. The abutment: Your dentist will put a permanent, but removable abutment in place. This is the connector that holds and supports a tooth or your set of teeth.

  3. The crown (or prosthetic tooth): This is the part of the tooth that can be seen. It is made of porcelain or zirconium for improved look and durability.

Right candidate for tooth implant

Dental implants are suitable for adults who have good dental and overall health. If you have the habit of smoking or drinking, then this may increase problems associated with healing.

Since each case is different and if you do have medical problems, it is advised to talk to your dentist, prior to the treatment. In some cases, your health problems may prevent you from undergoing dental implant treatment.

Types of dental implants

  • Endosteal implants – These are surgically implanted into the jawbone. After the surrounding gum tissue heals, you will have to have another surgery to connect a post to the original implant. Finally, the artificial tooth (or teeth) is attached with a denture or bridge.

  • Subperiosteal implants – A metal frame is fitted onto the jawbone below the gum tissue. As the gums begin to heal, the frame will attach to the jawbone.

FAQs on implants

What does the treatment involve?

At London Teeth Whitening, we will evaluate each individual case in detail before arriving at the right suggested treatment. As a patient, all possible options will be discussed with you and then a treatment plan will be suggested. The treatment period may vary from 8 to 12 months, depending on the severity of your case.

How do implants differ from original teeth?

With implant supported teeth it is next to tell the difference when compared to natural teeth. The visible part of implant is a tooth coloured crown that is made to look, feel and function like natural teeth. Hence, it will match with the shape, size and color of natural teeth.

How safe are dental implants?

Implants are a safe and effective way to overcome the problem of missing or lost teeth. The benefit of choosing them is they look and feel like your natural teeth which allows you to restore your smile and confidence. With proper care, implants will last for a long time.
