zoom teeth whitening

The Zoom Whitening London Guide

Zoom whitening is a process that is used widely to bring new whiteness to teeth by lightening the colour and removing staining from dentin and enamel. The discolouration that affects our teeth is usually the result of the food and drink that we enjoy like coffee and red wine. Smoking is another culprit. Aging is another cause of discolouration of the teeth.

The Zoom in-office tooth whitening procedure uses the Zoom Advanced Power Chairside Lamp accelerates the bleaching process activating the 25 % hydrogen peroxide whitening. As this hydrogen peroxide breaks down, oxygen will enter the enamel and dentin and will bleach stained substances, without changing the structure of the tooth.

The Zoom Tooth Whitening Treatment Plan

Before you decide whether you want Zoom whitening you will have a full examination to ascertain the health of your teeth and gums and make sure that they are healthy enough for the treatment.

If you are planning any other cosmetic dental procedures then your dentists may think it the best that any tooth whitening you want to have is done before you have veneers or composite binding so that a uniform colour is achieved. If you already have crowns and veneers they will not respond to the whitening in the same ways as your other teeth do. Be prepared to hear that tooth whitening is not for you if your dental health makes it inadvisable.

The Zoom In-Office Whitening Process

The Zoom in office tooth whitening procedure will take less than an hour but it is usually recommended that you have a regular teeth cleaning with the hygienist before the Zoom treatment takes place.

To begin with you will have a protective solution applied to your lips and gums so that just the teeth are visible. The Zoom hydrogen peroxide whitening gel will be applied to the teeth and then activated by the Zoom light. This will have the affect of breaking up discolouration and stains

The gel will be left in place for 15 minutes while the Zoom light is activated. This will be repeated three times. Once treatment is complete then a fluoride gel paste will be applied to reduce sensitivity.

Zoom Whitening Aftercare: Keeping Your Zoom Whitening Effects

You will be given a home use touch up kit with custom fitted trays.  You need to follow the dentist’s instructions carefully when you use the touch up kit. Try to be aware that if you continue to eat and drink the same things that stained your teeth, the staining will come back. Smoking is also a very bad idea if you want to maintain your white bright smile. You could also use toothpastes with whitening agents to maintain the results of the whitening procedure.

Considerations with Zoom Whitening

Sensitivity is something that can occur after Zoom whitening and mostly this can be treated with an anti sensitivity toothpaste. As is usual with other whitening products those who are pregnant or under 13 are not advised to have the treatment. Your dentist can determine if Zoom teeth whitening will be right for you after a thorough oral examination and that will include a shade assessment.
