The Facts About Laser Teeth Whitening

There is a lot of interest around laser teeth whitening and there are some questions that we are always asked.  One is how long you can expect the results of laser teeth whitening to last? Another concern laser teeth whitening cost.

The reason that people come to us for Laser Teeth Whitening is because we are known for the high standard of training that all our dental professionals undergo, as well as the state of the art equipment we use.

Research carried out shows that there is no risk at all to the enamel of the teeth from laser teeth whitening treatment. Most people find the procedure absolutely painless.  A very small percentage might experience some temporary sensitivity to hot and cold for between 24-48 hours after treatment.

Teeth Whitening - What is it?

As we age our adult teeth often darken as changes occur in the mineral structure of the tooth and the enamel becomes less porous. Our teeth may also be stained by bacterial pigments, food, drink and tobacco.

Teeth whitening will restore your natural tooth colour and bleaching will whiten them beyond your natural colour.

Many methods exist to achieve white teeth, like brushing or a bleaching pen, strip or gel, laser and natural bleaching.

Is Laser Treatment Suitable for Everyone?

Typically bleaching will produce dramatic improvements in the appearance of most stained teeth but there are some stains that don’t respond to bleaching. Stains that arise from the drug Tetracycline might need protracted bleaching, because it takes longer for the bleach to get to the dentin layer.

Bleaching is not recommended where there is decay or where the gums are infected and will be less effective when the original tooth colour is gray.  In this case custom bleaching trays might be needed to achieve a good result.

Bleaching will be most effective on discoloured yellow teeth but does not work if bonding has been used or on tooth-coloured fillings.
